Mobile telecommunication industry in Pakistan is just a decade old.  We have moved from Analog technology to GSM.  These conventional mobile phones are competing on prices and service distribution in the urban lands of Pakistan.

Markets waited for a long time for a new service to emerge in this competitive environment.  The launch of THURAYA services in Pakistan filled this vacuum.  We provide coverage and services to customers across Pakistan and across the globe with no geographic boundaries. Now people can expect to take their mobile handsets around the world and will be able to access their everyday services with the same ease that they can from home.

With the introduction of CPP (Caller Party Pays), the industry in Pakistan has exploded.  We witnessed a growth of five folds in the customer base in just less than two years.  It is likely that the number of customers will continue to double every two or three years.   But the size will also bring in an issue of diversity: people with different expectations and needs will become increasingly important. Although voice calls will remain the most important service on mobile devices but lot of customers will require technologically advanced services such as location detecting services, security services and mobile Internet.

THURAYA in Pakistan is positioned to play a primary role in the communication industry.  We have a vision for what we want to achieve and we are constantly striving towards achieving our goal.  We keep our customer at the center and work out on how to bring more services and more value to more people than ever before.

In May 2002 THURAYA products and services were launched in Pakistan.  This country has a great potential for satellite telecommunications.  With population of 140 million people we have a fixed line penetration of less than 3%, while 0.7% of Pakistanis use conventional mobile phones.  And their coverage is in major urban cities only.  THURAYA on the other hand with its remarkable satellite technology covers every inch of Pakistan in addition to 1/3 of the globe.

THURAYA has aggressively launched its services in Pakistan with its offices in all major cities and with an ever-expanding dealer network.  We are working towards encouraging THURAYA usage all across Pakistan i.e. in the remote valleys of NWFP, deserts of Sindh, agricultural plains of Punjab, the rugged mountains of Baluchistan and covering the oceans.  But also it can be used in all major cities of Pakistan.  Future is satellite communications as it works in every corner of Pakistan and is accessible to all.
