Thuraya launches ThurayaDSL high-speed satellite data

Building on its leadership in handheld mobile satellite services, Thuraya announced ThurayaDSL, a high-speed satellite internet service and the first product in its GPRS programme.

The notebook-sized, SIM-operated terminal connected to a computer over Ethernet and offered speeds of up to 144 kbps on a shared channel, supporting email, web browsing, FTP and VPN.

ThurayaDSL was offered on both prepaid and postpaid bases, with packages designed for oil and gas operations, NGOs, media, business travellers and corporate users.
